Although breast augmentation can be performed with the patient’s own fat, silicone breast implants are still used in the majority of the patients.
Thorough research in improving the breast implants manufacture has led to impressive changes in both the shell and the silicone content.
Technique of breast augmentation
Further improvement in the structure of the breast implants had led to much stronger bond between the silicone molecules also called the cohesivity of the silicone gel. This bond is become so strong that nowedays we can speak of unbreakable breast implants.
Moreover the texturisation of the outer shell has been reduced to a micro or nanotexture that is only visible under the microscope. This nano texturisation not only prevent better the formation of capsular contracture but at the same time improves the softness and the feel of the implant.
This is by far the most common form of cosmetic surgery performed in women, giving without doubt the highest degree of satisfaction of all forms of cosmetic surgery.
However, the outcome is very much dependent on:
- Perfect understanding of the patient’s wishes
- Making the right choice of implant
- Performing the procedure in accordance with the latest techniques
- Satisfying all requirements of breast aesthetics
Causes of small breast volume
- Insufficient breast development after puberty
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Weight loss
- Aging
This small breast volume makes the patient feel insecure, incomplete and inhibited in her day-to-day social contacts or relations at work.
Although a change in breast volume will not be noticeable to other people, it will increase the patient’s self-confidence and sense of self-esteem.
Surgical technique
The procedure involves placing a breast implant, consisting of a silicone shell filled with highly cohesive silicone gel.
The implant is placed above and under the pectoralis muscle. In slimmer patients, placement under the pectoralis muscle is preferable in order to make the implant less visible.
Access to the implant site is afforded by a small incision in the infra-mammary fold or in the armpit area.
Choice of implant
This choice depends on the shape and volume of the breast in its present form, the shape of the patient’s chest, and the patient’s wishes.
